Our Active School Journey

We are currently working towards attaining an ‘Active School Flag’ here in Mary Queen of Angels 1 in recognition of all the physical activity that takes place in our school.

We started in January 2016, working towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community. With help from teachers, students, parents and the wider community we hope that in 2017 our school will be recognised as an official ‘Active School’.

What is an Active School Flag?

The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative which recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active schools by awarding them an Active School Flag.

In order for Mary Queen of Angels to achieve the Active School Flag we must begin by self evaluating our current provision across PE, Physical Activity and Partnerships. We must then plan and implement improvements that will have a real and tangible impact on our school community.

As the Active School Flag involves the whole school community we would encourage you to also provide opportunities for your children to be active at home. Additionally, if you think you have any skills or ideas that would be of benefit to the Active School Flag we would love you to get involved. Your support of the Active School Flag is greatly appreciated.

Since January 2016, we have introduced some new and exciting activities and sports. We have run art competitions and enriched the walls of the school to encourage education about how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the Active School Programme, we organised an inaugural sports week during June 2016. This whole school initiative had many exciting activities and lots of fun and games that were enjoyed by all.

We are all looking forward to Active School week 2017 and continuing to do as our school motto suggests, we like to ‘MOVE IT!’
