Eight boys from Mary Queen of Angels represented our school in the annual Ficheall Chess Tournament 2024.

St. Lorcans BNS hosted the tournament on Thursday 7th March and the boys had great success winning a total of 21 games collectively. This was a non-competitive tournament, aimed only at promoting chess in primary schools.

This was the first chess team in our school and the boys represented our school with great pride.

They played games against other schools from around the area including Palmerstown, Cherry Orchard, Inchicore and Clondalkin.

Although the framed certificate was good, it was the ice cream after that was the real trophy! A huge thank you to Mr Mc Carron for preparing the boys for the tournament!

This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to upgrade interactive whiteboards in our classrooms and install Wi-Fi across our school to enhance both teaching and learning.
